With The Great Reserve you can buy carbon by the tonne or per tree. A Sequoia Carbon tonne is a unit of CO2 stored in The Great Reserve forests, sequestered by our Giant Sequoia trees.
Our woodlands and carbon are externally audited and verified by the Soil Association in accordance with the FSC® Ecosystem Services Procedure.
Sequoia Carbon is unique in its dual purpose. Planting and protecting an endangered species + ultra long lasting carbon capture for climate change impact.
We are laying the foundations for the creation of old growth Sequoia groves in the UK, locking up carbon for a millenia or more.
Our planet’s oldest living Sequoias are c.3500 years old.
Sequoia Carbon
Trees take time to grow. Supporters of our project buy ‘Sequoia Carbon Pending Units’ (SCPUs). One Unit is equal to one Tonne of CO2 removal. As our Sequoias are planted and grow we undertake drone scans to report on the increasing carbon volume in the trees, and the ‘Pending Units’ gradually convert to ‘Sequoia Carbon Verified Units’ (SCVUs). Over the maturity period (say 100 or 150 years), all carbon purchased converts to Verified Units.
The Sequoia Carbon Code
It’s a science backed framework for forecasting the capture of carbon by Giant Sequoia trees in the UK. The SCC is a voluntary code, specifying the commitments we make to ensure effective carbon sequester rates and the maintenance and protection of our Giant Sequoia trees in the UK.

Carbon Reporting
& Verification
Our project carbon reporting is performed by Treeconomy’s Sherwood Platform using a combination of drone and satellite images with LIDAR scans for individual tree carbon storage data.
Pricing
Our Sequoia Carbon is priced between £12 - £47 per tonne (depending on vintage). The EU carbon market prices are today (2023) at €100 per tonne. Our Sequoias provide a natural and durable solution in the market. Moreover you are welcome to come and plant Sequoia trees in person at no additional cost!
